WINDSOR, N.C. – The State Bureau of Investigation and two counties in Eastern NC are announcing details of a three month undercover investigation.
The SBI and Bertie and Hertford County deputies say there have been numerous drug trafficking arrests as a result of the investigation that is part of a statewide campaign.
At least 28 people are being sought as part of Operation “Take as Directed,” a which focused on the sale of prescription drugs. Of the 28 suspects, only 22 mugshots were available on Tuesday.
Over the last 90 days, law enforcement made street-level covert purchases of 893 oxycodone and dilaudid pills. The street value of the drugs is estimated to be more than $8,000.
“This is huge success considering the number of dealers who were charged in such a short period of time, said Bertie County Sheriff John Holley. “And there are more arrests to come in the near future. Without this team working together, we would not have been so successful.
The partnership between agencies allowed them to combine efforts to confront the drug problem in their counties.
“Each entity offered resources that the other could not provide. In essence, we had an informal task force at work, explained SBI DECU Special Agent in Charge Donnie Varnell.
