The 2018 Waccamaw Heart Walk will be held on Saturday in North Myrtle Beach.

A press release from the American Heart Association says the walk “is a family-friendly fundraiser” for the AHA and will be held at the North Myrtle Beach Park and Sports Complex, located at 150 Citizens Circle. Activities will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the walk will start at 10 a.m.

“Participants can enjoy a non-competitive one-mile route or a three-mile walk around beautiful North Myrtle Beach,” states the release. Glenda Page, the Chief Executive of Human Resources for HTC, will serve as the 2018 Chair of the Waccamaw Heart Walk.

“Heart disease is the leading cause of death of South Carolinians and stroke is the leading cause of long-term disability,” the release also says. “The Heart Walk raises awareness that heart disease and stroke are largely preventable through a healthy diet and exercise.”

The American Heart Association and Waccamaw VOAD will be collecting donations for Hurricane Florence relief at the walk. The following items will be collected:

  • reusable cleaning towels, scouring pads, sponges, and scrub brushes
  • liquid laundry detergent, antibacterial/disinfectant dish soap
  • latex and work gloves
  • heavy duty 45 gallon-sized trash bags
  • insect repellent
  • mops, brooms, dust pans, and dust masks
