MURRELLS INLET, SC (WBTW) – Two people have been charged after a baby arrived at a Murrells Inlet hospital with a fractured arm.
According to an incident report from the Horry County Police Department, officers responded to a hospital in Murrells Inlet on January 8 in reference to “a possible child abuse incident” that happened in Myrtle Beach. Officers met with a nurse who reportedly said the baby was brought in around 2:30 a.m. on Jan. 8 by the two suspects.
The suspects are identified in the report as Joseph Wayne Green, 42, and Brooke Bailey, 24, both of Myrtle Beach.
The suspects reportedly stated that Green went into the baby’s room alone to feed him and that Bailey heard the baby scream “in a way that was different than normal feeding,” the report said. Bailey then reportedly entered the room and both suspects reportedly took the baby out of his swaddle and noticed the baby “could not move his left arm.”
The injury was reportedly confirmed as a spiral fracture to the baby’s upper left arm.
Green was booked in to the J. Reuben Long Detention Center around 11 a.m. on Thursday, according to booking records. He is charged with unlawful neglect of a child or helpless person by a legal custodian and bail is set at $10,000.
