LUMBERTON, NC (WBTW) – Robeson County Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating the death of a seven-year-old boy Sunday morning.

Robeson County Sheriff Ken Sealey says 7-year-old Talen West and his 8-year-old brother were attacked by a pit bull on Odum Road in Lumberton. Deputies say the call came in around 11:30 Sunday morning.

Sealey said when they arrived they found West unresponsive and his brother had been injured in his lower body by the dog. Both children were taken to Southeastern Medical Center Emergency Department where West died.

His brother was treated and has been released from the hospital, officials say. Deputies say when they arrived the dog was dead but didn’t have any apparent injuries.

Sealey said they are now investigating to determine what happened to the dog.

The Robeson County Sheriff’s office is now investigating.
