CLIO, SC (WBTW) – The sheriff’s office says one of the men arrested after a car chase in Marlboro County Monday was wanted by the federal government.
Deputies with the Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office were involved in a chase Monday between McColl and Clio, according to a press release from Lt. Trevor Murphy.
Law enforcement was able to stop the car eventually and arrest 35-year-old Dwight Matthew Williams II and 40-year-old Shermon Jermaine Whittington.
Williams was charged with driving under the influence, driving under suspension, failure to stop for blue lights and possession with intent to distribute cocaine base.
Whittington, also known as “Devil”, according to deputies, was charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine base and was also found to be wanted by the US Marshal Service for violating federal probation. Whittington is being held at the Marlboro County Detention Center awaiting extradition.
“We’re very blessed that this incident didn’t end in any injuries to the defendants, deputies, or civilians. This is a great example of agencies working together for the betterment of the community and we cannot thank the McColl Police Department enough for their assistance with this incident,” Lt. Murphy wrote in the press release.
