COLUMBIA, SC (AP) – Authorities say a handcuffed 17-year-old boy wanted on two counts of attempted murder has been recaptured after escaping from outside of a Columbia hospital.
Local media outlets report the juvenile was found Sunday afternoon in Columbia. He was still in the handcuffs he was wearing before he escaped Saturday afternoon from Palmetto Health Richland.
Richland County Sheriff’s Lt. Curtis Wilson says the suspect had been taken to the hospital’s emergency room after he was the victim of a robbery in an unrelated incident. Authorities say the juvenile broke free from a deputy as he was being placed into a patrol vehicle. It is unclear what the charges against the suspect stem from.
The Associated Press does not generally identify juveniles accused of crimes.
