STEPHENS COUNTY, Ga – The Toccoa Fire Department responded to a head on collision between a car and a church bus around 8:25 p.m. Thursday evening.
A person was driving a Lincoln Town Car was traveling South on Highway 184 when it crossed into the North bound lane and hit church van head on, according to Georgia State Police.
The Lincoln Town Car flipped and the driver was removed and airlifted to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
Charges are pending against the driver of the Lincoln Town Car and alcohol is suspected as a contributing factor, according to Georgia State Police.
13 people were treated at Stephens County Hospital and 3 others were treated at Habersham Hospital according to Georgia State Police.
The last patient at Stephens County Hospital was released at 2a.m. Friday morning, according to a doctor.
The Stephens County Sheriff says most of the injuries on the bus were cuts or broken limbs.
The Conyers Church bus was occupied by only adults, who were on their way to a women’s retreat at the Georgia Baptist Assembly.
Assisting with the accident along with help from the Toccoa Fire Department include EMS from Franklin, Habersham, and Banks Counties as well as Georgia Highway Patrol and the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office.
