UNION COUNTY, S.C. – A 12-year-old girl was rushed to the hospital, earlier this month, after being beaten by a boy in her sixth grade class. The assault allegedly happened at Lockhart School.
According to the Union County Sheriff’s Office report, classmates watched as the girl was assaulted by a 12-year-old boy.
“I saw him throw a book and hit her right here in the eye,” said one classmate.
They say that wasn’t the worst. The family shared pictures, showing several injuries, with Seven On Your Side. The victim’s sister says she had to be taken directly to the hospital.
“He punched her two times in the face and got her in a choke hold, and slammed her down on the ground. She went unconscious. He took her head, put it in his hand, and slammed her head against the wall,” described another classmate.
The Sheriff’s Office report doesn’t say what may have led to the alleged attack, but the victim told deputies that she, “has been having issues from this individual for a couple of years and this wasn’t the first time it became physical.”
The students we talked to said administration at Lockhart School decided to suspend the boy for five days. He came back to class Monday or Tuesday of this week.
“After I saw what happened to [the girl], I got a little scared of him… terrified. I didn’t want to get too close to him,” said one student.
Another shared, “I feel kinda scared. It feels like he’s going to come after me and all the other students. I feel intimidated by him because he’s much taller than me.”
Seven On Your Side reached out to the school for comment. We’re still waiting for a response.
The family says their daughter will not be returning to the school.
“I don’t think anybody should send their child to school and have to go pick their kid up almost bleeding to death,” said the victim’s sister, Reece.
The sheriff’s department says the assault is still under investigation. The family has already hired an attorney.
