MARION, SC (WBTW)- A 12-year-old child has died after a single vehicle crash on Highway 9 outside of Marion Saturday night, according to the coroner.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol reports the vehicle was traveling North on “Number 9” around 9:54 p.m. when the driver went off the right side of the road and hit a fire hydrant before overturning and going into a ditch.
Marion County Coroner Jerry Richardson says the 12-year-old passenger in the car died from injuries sustained in the crash. The 18-year-old driver was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
Richardson identified the 12-year-old as Tylek Gause.
He was not wearing a seat belt, according to SCHP.
