MARION, SC (WBTW) – Helen White celebrated her 110th birthday at her home in Marion County Sunday afternoon.
Mrs. White was born September 21, 1906.
White was surrounded by family, friends, and city leaders to help celebrate her birthday..
She believes the key to her longevity – the power of positive thinking.
“I just kept living, going to bed at night and getting up the next day,” said White.
You can say longevity runs in her family.
“I told somebody this morning all I can do now is peel vegetables and put a bowl in my lap. I can do that much to help,” White added.
White graduated from college in 1928 white. After graduation she got her first job at school in Marion County. She taught subjects like English, Math and Home Economics. At one point she even stepped in to coach the girls basketball team.
“And Helen who was known as a tom boy in her younger years, without ever playing basketball she studied from a book,” said City of Marion Mayor Bobby Davis who presented a plaque to White.
“They were later blessed with a daughter Jerry and son Harry Junior White,” said Mayor Davis as he read plaque.
“Most memorable is my daughter’s birth and then later on my son,” White said.
White says she counts each and every day a blessing.
