100 volunteers cook chicken bog to help Florence man

FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – More than one hundred volunteers were at the West Florence Fire Station on Pine Needles Road Tuesday morning preparing nearly 4,700 plates of chicken bog for Thursday’s Cooks for Christ fundraiser.

The money from the fundraiser will be used to help life-long Florence resident George Woodbury. Woodbury retired from Palmetto Glass in 2000 when he became too ill to work. The 71-year-old man suffers from congestive heart failure and diabetes. Woodbury’s wife cares for him, along with their 43-year-old daughter, Teresa, who has been diagnosed with ALS.

Cooks for Christ will use the money from the Chicken Bog event to help with Woodbury’s medical bills and to install a walk-in shower at Woodbury’s home to help take care of George and his daughter.

Lunch will be served Thursday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and dinner will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Plates are $7 each. A bake sale will also be held and plates can be purchased on Thursday at the West Florence Fire Station at 3379 Pine Needles Rd. To donate, please make checks payable to the “George Woodbury Medical Fund.”
