Authorities report that at least one person died and 5 more were hurt when a church van and a truck collided in Horry County on Tuesday afternoon.

Also, about 90 minutes after the crash, a small child at the scene was hurt when the child was run over by an off-road vehicle, officials said.

The initial wreck happened at 4 pm on SC 9 Bypass just north of Loris, the SC Highway Patrol said.  SC 9 Bypass lanes heading toward the beach at the scene are shut down.

The crash was located at SC Highway 747, which intersects the SC 9 Bypass about 2000 feet east of the US 701 intersection.

The crash involved a church van that collided with a truck, said Brian Van Aernem of Horry County Fire Rescue.

Brian Van Aernem said that 5 other people involved in the crash were taken to Grand Strand Regional Hospital.

At 5:30 pm, a child who was at the scene as a bystander was hit and run over by a John Deere “Gator”-type off-road vehicle, Van Aernem said.

An additional ambulance was dispatched to take the child to a hospital, Van Aernem added.

According to traffic mapping data, the beach-bound lanes of the SC 9 Bypass are at a standstill.
