DILLON, SC (WBTW) – The Dillon County Sheriff’s Office announced that an employee was killed during an apparent robbery at a grocery store Thursday night.

On Friday afternoon, family members told News13 J.W. Bailey, the owner of JW Bailey’s Grocery, was the employee killed. J.W. is the father of Keith Bailey, who is the fire chief for the city of Dillon.

Dillon County Coroner Donnie Grimsley says John Walter Bailey was 77 years old. Grimsley says an autopsy is scheduled for Friday afternoon.

A friend of J.W. tells News13 that J.W. wasn’t supposed to work last night, but switched shifts because another employee was unavailable.

A ribbon was placed on the door to the grocery store on Friday.

The sheriff’s office, the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED), and the coroner’s office all responded to the scene on 301 Thursday night.

No arrests have been made.
