HORRY CO, SC (WBTW) – Horry County Fire Rescue’s call load is up 5 to 10 percent, but not all of the calls are related to the coronavirus.
Chief Joseph Tanner said the department is taking an average of 30 to 40 patients per day to the hospital with some type of coronavirus symptom. “This does not mean they’re positive,” Chief Tanner said, “They meet some form of the criteria.
“If you look at the DHEC website, you’ll see that they have the results out now about how many people have been tested vs. the positives that come back. So it shows a great majority are coming back as negative tests.”
Horry County police, meanwhile, is seeing a drop in calls. However, the department is still getting several of complaints about social distancing. Chief Joseph Hill says many involve groups violating the governor’s “three or less” order and others are about parties.
Chief Hill says his department is using social media to keep up with party trends and address the issue. He said police also are monitoring activities at parks. They saw an issue over the weekend with pickup games.
Contact sports, such as basketball, are technically in violation of state orders.
