FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – 12th Circuit Solicitor Ed Clements and Florence County Clerk of Court Doris O’Hara are warning the public to be aware of a jury duty scam.

The scammers call people and tell them they missed jury duty and a bench warrant has been issued for their arrest.

The caller says for the person to avoid arrest they must purchase gift cards and submit the numbers to the caller. The cash is then taken.

The phone number from the scammer shows up as the Florence County Sheriff’s Office phone number, which is (843) 665-2121.  But it’s not the sheriff’s office calling.  This is a scam.

The victims are told to mail the cards to the Clerk of Court’s office, but the money is long gone.

Authorities say if you get a call like this you should hang up and report it to local law enforcement.
