NC man wanted, a “flight risk” after Havelock shooting

A New Bern man considered ‘flight risk’ is wanted after a shooting that occurred at the parking lot near The Sunset Inn located in Havelock Wednesday night, police said.

Rodney R. Gibbs has warrants on one count of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and possession of a firearm.

On Wednesday around 7:10 p.m., the Havelock Police Department responded to The Sunset Inn in reference to shots fired in the area.  

Police arrived on the scene and said that the evidence found suggested that multiple shots were fired in the parking lot.  

Police said that after arriving on the scene, a gunshot victim arrived at the police station.  

The victim was identified as J. Vachon.

Vachon had a leg wound and was sent to the Carolina East Medical Center in New Bern. 

The investigation led police to locate a second gunshot victim identified as S. Todd.

Todd also had a leg wound.  

Police said that investigation revealed that Gibbs had fired multiple shots at Vachon and Todd.

Police said Gibbs is to be considered armed and dangerous and a flight risk.

The case is still under investigation.
