LORIS, SC (WBTW) – The Horry County Police Department reports the man who barricaded himself off Hwy. 348 has been jailed after they discovered 18 weapons inside his home.

According to an Horry County Police report, officers were dispatched to a home off Hwy 348 in Loris around 5:45 p.m. Sunday after the caller told dispatch the suspect was threatening to kill her. Dispatch also received a call saying the suspect was threatening to kill any officers who came to his home.

Prior to officers approaching the home, they met with the female caller who said the suspect was threatening to shoot any responding officers in the head. It was discovered that one of the responding officers knew the suspect, later identified as Linford McCormick, 59, of Loris.

The officer contacted McCormick to let him know police were only there to check on McCormick and make sure he was ok. McCormick told the officer he would speak to police but no officer was allowed any closer than the front yard, and McCormick stayed on the porch with a “long weapon,” the report states.

After a couple of hours of speaking with McCormick, officers were able to take the man into custody and transport him to the emergency room for evaluation. McCormick was then taken to J. Rueben Long Detention Center and booked at 5:26 a.m. Monday morning.

After McCormick was taken into custody, dispatch informed officers that the Loris man was not legally permitted to have a firearm. Officers recovered 18 weapons from McCormick’s home.

While official charges are not listed on the booking website, the police report notes the incident as possession of firearms or ammunition by a convicted felon.
