MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – A judge in Myrtle Beach has denied bond for a man charged with attempted murder in connection with a Memorial Day weekend shooting.
Denardo Sincere Morgan, 18, of Myrtle Beach is charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to Myrtle Beach police. Today, a judge said he was not comfortable granting bond until he knows the victim is going to live.
The victim is currently still in the hospital and is scheduled to have a second surgery, according to a victim’s advocate. The advocate told the court that the victim was shot in the stomach and is not doing well. The victim’s advocate also said Morgan and the victim knew each other and saw each other daily.
Morgan told the judge he is not in school and does not have a job. He also told the judge he has lived in Myrtle Beach for about a month-and-a-half.
The shooting happened at the Palms Court, located at 600 Chester Street in Myrtle Beach, on Sunday.
“Public safety is a shared responsibility and I want to thank our team, all of our law enforcement partners and our community members and visitors who assisted us in apprehending this subject so quickly,” said MBPD Chief Amy Prock. “We were able to take him into custody in less than an hour. This is outstanding work.”
Police responded to the area of 7th Avenue North and Chester Street on Sunday evening.
Cpl. Tom Vest, with MBPD, said in a press briefing around 9:30 p.m. that one person had been detained and one person was injured. That person was taken to a hospital. The victim remains in critical condition.
According to arrest warrants, Morgan made a “spontaneous utterance that he had shot someone” and a “post Miranda statement that he’d shot the victim.”
Morgan reportedly described the gun that was used, warrants said. A matching gun was reportedly found near where the shooting happened.
