MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – State revenue agents arrested a Myrtle Beach man for tax evasion after failing to file income tax returns.
Christopher Joseph Greenwell, 35, is charged with two counts of attempting to evade a tax.
In 2014 and 2015, according to the arrest warrants, Greenwell received nearly $900,000 in gross income but failed to voluntarily and timely file Individual Income Tax returns. In doing so, Greenwell evaded the assessment of more than $17,000 in South Carolina tax.
During the investigation, Greenwell made misleading and false statements to agents, according to the warrants.
Greenwell is currently being held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center in Conway pending a bond hearing. If convicted, he faces up to five years in prison and/or up to $10,000 in fines per charge, plus the cost of prosecution.
The South Carolina Department of Revenue is investigating.
