SOCASTEE, SC (WBTW) — A 27-year-old Conway man on a moped died after a late night crash on SC 544, according to the coroner’s office on Tuesday.

Joshua Wayne Young died at the scene just before midnight on Saturday after being struck from behind by another vehicle, Horry County Deputy Coroner Chris Dontell reported. The accident happened near the Highway 31 off-ramp. 

Charges were filed against the driver who struck Young. 

Juan Carlos Garcia-Olivares was traveling west on 544 when he struck the moped from behind with his car, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol. 

Garcia-Olivares is currently being held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center for Felony DUI resulting in death and for not having a driver’s license. His bond is set at $50,232.50.

Young was not wearing a helmet., the SCHP reported.
