Missing man’s body found, was shot to death according to coroner

GEORGETOWN, SC (WBTW) – A body found in a ditch in Georgetown County has been identified.

The body of Ja’Quan Collins was found with a deadly gunshot wound, according to Georgetown County coroner, Kenney Johnson. Collins body was found on Friday, and an autopsy was performed yesterday, according to Johnson.

Johnson says Collins’ body was found in a remote and wooded area along Walker Road. The body appears to have been in the ditch since early last week when Collins was reported missing.

Johnson says the cause of death is listed as a homicide. Collins was 18 years of age.

News13 reported earlier that, Theophilus Xavier Berry, is charged in connection with Collins’ death. Berry is charged with murder, armed robbery and possession of a weapon during commission of a violent crime.

Investigators with the Georgetown County sheriff’s office said Collins was reported missing on Tuesday May 21.  Berry was arrested a few days later. At that time deputies said they were able to connect Berry to the homicide through an extensive investigation.
