Longs man pleads guilty, receives 18-year sentence in 2017 shooting death of FL man

LONGS, SC (WBTW) – A Longs man pleaded guilty and received an 18-year prison sentence in the 2017 shooting death of a Florida man.

Anthony Leon Bellamy, 40, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter on Wednesday, according to a press release from the 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office. A circuit court judge sentenced Bellamy to 18 years in prison.

The shooting happened in October 2017, the release said. Jason Sprott, 41, of Jacksonville, Florida, was shot and killed on Freemont Road in Longs.

“We commend the job well done by Detective Amy Hardwick and the Horry County Police Department,” said Seth Oskin, the assistant solicitor who prosecuted the case for the 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office. “This was a tragic situation for all parties involved, and we hope the plea helps Mr. Sprott’s family take the next step in the healing process.”
