Authorities searching for man, woman after Pawleys Island stolen car chase

On Wednesday evening police in Pawleys Island initiated a chase with a car that was identified as stolen. 

At about 9:10 PM, an officer on patrol observed the vehicle at the public beach access at the south end of Springs Ave. The vehicle was occupied by a man and woman. The officer began questioning the man in the driver’s seat. Suddenly, the man pulled out of the beach access.

The officer advised the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office by radio of the situation, and a deputy spotted the car on South Causeway Road.  Deputies deployed “stop sticks,” and the vehicle struck the sticks but continued to flee. Officers lost visual contact of the vehicle.

As they were searching the area, an anonymous caller advised that a suspicious vehicle had been left on Ferguson Drive.

Deputies located the ditched vehicle without anyone inside.

Officers determined that the vehicle was reported stolen by the Horry County PD, and the license tag was stolen reported stolen by the Georgetown City PD.

Investigation is ongoing.
