LONGS, SC (WBTW) – The man charged with murder in connection with the Longs Food Lion shooting death is being held on a $5 million bond in North Carolina.
According to Capt. John Harrelson of the Horry County Police Department, James Laverne Bellamy, of Tabor City, North Carolina, was arrested by United States Marshals in Fair Bluff, NC in connection to the case.
In a press release Wednesday night, Capt. Harrelson said the Horry County Police Department Robbery and Homicide Unit obtained warrants on Bellamy in reference to the murder in the Food Lion parking lot and armed robbery of the Carolina Inn minutes later in Loris. The crimes occurred one week prior to Bellamy’s arrest, initiating a multi-state search for accused killers.
Additionally, probable cause has since been developed to charge him in relation to the strong-armed robbery reported on Fox Bay Road in Loris. Once those warrants are obtained the specific charges will be released, says Capt. Harrelson.
Bellamy is currently being held on a $5 million bond at the Columbus County Detention Center. Columbus County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Michelle Tatum says Bellamy is scheduled to be in court Aug. 27 at 9:30 a.m. where he will either waive or fight extradition to Horry County.
