MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) – Two attempted murder charges have been dismissed for an ex-Marine accused of a brutal baseball bat attack near the Market Common area.
Magistrate Judge Hutson dismissed the charges on Friday morning during a preliminary hearing due to lack of probable cause. Defense Attorney Johnny McCoy said two of the people weren’t involved in the incident and were never attacked.
Ryan Allen Knox, 29, hit several people in a brutal attack with a metal baseball bat inside an apartment in the Market Common area in April, according to police. During the attack, a woman was knocked unconscious onto the bathroom floor, according to police. She was later transported to Grand Strand Regional Hospital with severe injuries to her head and face.
Knox is still facing two attempted murder charges after police say he hit the wife in the head with the bat and hit the husband while the husband tried to wrestle the bat away.
McCoy says it’s evident Knox was in the middle of a PTSD flashback when this all happened. Knox’s mother said he suffers two traumatic brain injuries as an ex-Marine with PTSD.
Knox is still in jail. Another bond hearing next week.
