Conway, S.C. – In response to the impending arrival of Hurricane Florence, the Coastal Carolina home football game versus Campbell originally scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 15, in Conway, S.C., has been rescheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 12, at 2 p.m. ET at Barker-Lane Stadium in Buies Creek, N.C.
“Given the close proximity of our campuses and based on current available information regarding the storm, there was mutual interest in playing the game on Wednesday,” said CCU Director of Athletics Matt Hogue. “Our team planned to relocate until the passing of the storm regardless, so moving the game to Buies Creek worked with that plan. The safety of our student-athletes, fans and event staff are of the utmost concern to Coastal Carolina University. We look forward to seeing all of our fans back at Brooks Stadium on Oct. 13 for Family Weekend.”
Admission to the game on Wednesday afternoon will be free. All fans who purchased single-game tickets for this weekend’s game can exchange those tickets for any remaining Coastal Carolina home football game this season. For questions or to exchange your tickets, contact the Chanticleer Athletics Ticket Office at 843-347-8499.
There will also be live radio coverage of the game via the Chanticleer Sports Network.
“We don’t spend a lot of time worrying about things that we have no control over. I’m really impressed and proud at the way President David A. DeCenzo, Director of Athletics Matt Hogue and the administration has approached this,” said head football coach Joe Moglia. “We are well prepared, we have a plan and we’ll be ready to go. Our biggest priority is to keep all of our students, our student-athletes and families safe.”
Both teams are coming off wins last Saturday, as Coastal (1-1) defeated UAB 47-24 at home while Campbell (2-0) went on the road to hold off Georgetown 13-8 in Washington, D.C.
A midweek game is not unusual for the Sun Belt, as Georgia State and ULM both opened up the 2018 season on a Thursday night, while seven other Sun Belt teams will be in action this year on either a Tuesday or a Thursday.
