Coroner identifies man killed in officer-involved shooting in Darlington County

UDPATE: The officer-involved shooting last night claimed the life of Daryl Strickland, 64, of Hartsville, according to the coroner. An autopsy is being done today. SLED and the Darlington County coroner are investigating.

HARTSVILLE, SC (WBTW) – Deputies with the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office are on the scene of an officer-involved shooting near the intersection of Golf Course Road and New Market Road, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Lt. Robert Kilgo with the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office says that no Deputies have been injured and that Sheriff Tony Chavis has requested SLED to conduct an investigation of the incident.

Lt. Kilgo says the deputy has been placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard practice for any deputy-involved shooting. “During the paid administrative leave the Sheriff ensures the Deputy meets with counselors and other professionals who assist law enforcement agencies with these critical incidents.”

The name of the Deputy is not being released at this time.
