FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – Florence School District One School Board member Pat Gibson Hye-Moore has won Tuesday’s runoff election for the seat once held by the late Ed Robinson.
Hye-Moore won with about 54 percent of the vote.
When Robinson passed away earlier this year, a special election was held to decide who would take the seat. Two candidates, Hye-Moore and Florence County Democratic chair LaShonda NeSmith led the ballots, but neither won a majority. Tuesday’s runoff was the final showdown in the race for the seat.
“I won, not for myself, but because I really wanna be a public servant to the people,” Hye-Moore said following her victory.
“I’ve been doing that, and been a community activist for a long time and now I can do it even better because I would have more partnerships, more resources to deal with, and it’s for the people it’s not for me, it’s not about me, it’s for Florence.”
While a general election is scheduled for July 26, there is no Republican challenger and thus the seat belongs to Tuesday’s runoff winner.
A total of 641 votes were cast of the 8,186 registered voters in Florence with just over 7 percent turnout.
The results will be certified later this week.
