MYRTLE BEACH (WBTW)  – Myrtle Beach Pelicans were edged 2-1 by the Carolina Mudcats Thursday night in front of a sellout crowd of 6,599 at TicketReturn.Com Field.

Pelicans pitcher Jonathan Martinez threw 7.1 innings and only allowed two earned runs but it wasn’t enough.

With two outs in a scoreless second, Martinez issued a free pass to Jordan Edgerton. Reed Harper then plated the runner with a double to the wall in left, putting the Mudcats ahead 1-0.

The Pelicans tied it up but Tanner Murphy crushed a solo home run with two outs in the fifth to put Carolina ahead 2-1.

The two teams are back in action tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m.
