(MEDIA GENERAL) – One Missouri bird is recovering from the scare of its life following a near run-in with an 84 mph cutter from Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright.
Kansas City third baseman Cheslor Cuthbert was able to foul off the pitch even as a bird darted between the pitcher’s mound and home plate as Wainwright delivered the pitch. Video shows the ball come within inches of striking the bird.
It’s not aviary day that you see that! 🐦🐦 pic.twitter.com/JTaOLgtTwb— #VoteSTL (@Cardinals) June 28, 2016
The close call was all-too-similar to the infamous Randy Johnson pitch that struck and killed a bird during a spring training game in 2001.
