ROME, Italy (WBAY/MEDIA GENERAL) — A University of Wisconsin-Madison student who went missing in Rome has been found dead, according to an official statement from John Cabot University.
The body of Beau Solomon, 19, was found in the Tiber River.
John Cabot University released the following statement Monday morning:
John Cabot University is deeply saddened to announce that the body of Beau Solomon, the missing American visiting student, has been found in the Tiber River. We express our most heartfelt condolences to the Solomon family and to all those who loved Beau.
Details of Solomon’s death were not immediately available.
The Spring Green, Wisconsin, native was in Italy to study abroad at John Cabot University.
He was last seen late Thursday night at a bar with students, according a statement on the university’s website. He only arrived in the country a day earlier.
Solomon was due to attend orientation Friday morning. His roommate reported him missing when did not attend.
On Friday, Solomon’s family discovered his credit card had been stolen, with $1,500 in charges.
Solomon had just finished his freshman year at UW-Madison. He was majoring in personal finance.
UW-Madison Chancellor Rebecca Blank released the following statement:
All of us at UW–Madison are greatly saddened by this loss. Beau was a bright and caring young man who lived the Wisconsin Idea through his work at Badger Boys State and his desire to travel and experience other cultures. Our hearts go out to Beau’s family and friends at this difficult time. UW–Madison is working with John Cabot University and with American and Italian authorities to assist Beau’s family and to support the investigation into his death.
UW-Madison said Solomon’s death is being treated as a criminal investigation by local authorities in Rome but there appears to be no broader risk to students or others in the city.
Other UW–Madison students participating in the John Cabot program are safe and accounted for, the university said.This story was originally published by WBAY.
