HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) – Starting Monday, July 11, South Carolina DOT crews will begin removing the median crossover on US 17 at Lauderdale Bay to improve safety in the area.
The development is located on the west side of the highway between Farrow Parkway and Harrelson Boulevard. Since 2011, there have been 28 crashes at the Lauderdale Bay intersection; eight crashes involved injuries and one crash in 2015 was deadly.
After the median is removed, access to US 17 will be right in and right out only. To get to 17 North out of Lauderdale Ba, or turn into the development from Northbound US 17, drivers will have to make a U-turn.
Engineers believe that the work should take one week, unless weather delays the project.
