DALLAS — A Thursday night shooting that left five police officers dead, has prompted much support from communities beyond Dallas.

Members of the Dallas Police Department are issuing a reminder, there are scammers out there who want to take advantage of this tragedy to steal your money. The president of the Dallas Fallen Officers Foundation says if you want to help out, and not get scammed, be sure to double check what organizations you are donating to.

They say to make sure any fundraising websites are directly associated with credible organizations. You should also call and pick up the phone to confirm they are legitimate.

The Dallas Fallen Officers Foundation has started their own campaign, “Pray for Dallas,” to help raise money for their fellow fallen officers.

“Our goal is to raise support for any police officer killed or hurt in the line of duty, in this scenario we have several. We have 5 officers killed and at least 7 officers hurt,” said Dallas Police Sgt. Demetrick Pennie and President of the Dallas Fallen Officers Foundation. “I want everybody in the community to know there are a lot of people claiming to raise money for these families, we don’t know whether or not they’re legitimate so we want people to be cautious of that.”

They are selling t-shirts to help raise money, or you can simply donate to their fundraising page.
