MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) – Officials released an update on the status of the investigation behind a shooting incident involving an Horry County police officer.
Monday, August 8, Lt. Raul Dennis of the Horry County Police Department says James Franklin Badgett, 54, was charged with pointing and presenting firearms at a person.
On June 24, a Horry County police officer was sent to Myrtle Beach State Park for a call of a white male seen with a rifle and sitting in a white car. After a confrontation with the man in the car, the officer discharged his weapon. The suspect was taken to the hospital but the officer was not injured.
On July 15, Dennis confirmed that officer Chandler Mullinax is in good standing with the department and has been reassigned to administrative duties pending the results of the SLED investigation into the shooting.
Judge Chris Ircas ordered that Badgett be held without bond.
The investigation is ongoing.
