FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – The largest indoor cross-fit event in South Carolina kicked off at the Florence Civic Center this weekend.
Organizers say about 500 athletes are participating in the 3rd annual Independence Games.
The Independence Games were created to honor our country’s service men and women.
In addition to competitors, 20 vendors are on site to cater to the needs of the cross-fit community.
Athletes’’ at the competition are being scored on different exercises as part of their timed and judged workouts.
Organizers say the competition focuses on building strength, flexibility and endurance.
“I’d say the display of fitness probably attracts some people just to watch and as far as the participants, it’s a competition so cross fit people like. People who do cross fit or members of the cross fit affiliate like to participate in competitions because it’s a part of what we do. We compete every day,” said Co-Director of Independence Games Del Boykin.
Saturday’s competition was all individual but Sunday will be all team events.
Boykin says they are giving away more than $10,000 dollars in cash and prizes.
