HAMMOCK BEACH, NC – Sea turtles are an endangered species, and right now along the North Carolina coast, baby sea turtles are hatching from their eggs. Only one out of a thousand will survive.

They are starting their dangerous journey from the safety of their nests to the Atlantic Ocean.

At Hammocks Beach State Park a group of interns recently helped some baby turtles safely start their new lives.

“Before this summer, I’ve never seen sea turtles. This is our first excavation as interns,” commented Monika Giardina, a Hammocks Beach Sea Turtle Intern. “These turtles, we are hoping they have a chance in the ocean, I know the odds aren’t great for them, but it gives me some hope and it’s just cool to see.”
