MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Crews responded to a sinkhole around noon Thursday on the intersection of 17 Bypass and Holmestown Road, Lt. Raul Denis with Horry County Police said.
SCDOT crews on scene say the sinkhole was caused by an abandoned sewer line.
Police have the right southbound lane closed but are slowly letting people through the area as workers determine what repairs should be made.The sinkhole is located near the right turn lane on the 17 Bypass at the intersection.
SCDOT originally called for a saw to be brought in to cut the road open to see what caused the sinkhole, but were able to use a backhoe to dig through the road.
