ANDERSON, SC – A courthouse dog was used to help a witness testify at a trial in Anderson for the first time in South Carolina history.

The dog named Roma accompanied a witness who testified Tuesday during the murder trial of Robert Frost according to the 10th Circuit Solicitor.

Frost is charged with murder, attempted murder, armed robbery and other charges from 2012. He is representing himself at trial after firing four defense attorneys since his arrest.

Roma has been part of the solicitor’s office since November, but this is the first time the dog has been used in court during testimony. The yellow labrador was brought into court by Assistant Solicitor Chelsey Moore.

The facility dog has been used during witness and victim interviews by prosecutors and has assisted defendants during pleas.

Roma is the only courthouse facility dog in South Carolina.
