NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash in Horry County Thursday.
According to the SCHP website, a car crashed into Macedonia AME Church on Little River Neck Road in North Myrtle Beach around 3 a.m.
Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard confirms that Andrew Helmick, 25, was the driver of the car and died at the scene of traumatic injuries.
Willard says Helmick had recently moved to North Myrtle Beach from Virginia.
North Myrtle Beach spokesperson Pat Dowling says the man was driving a Ford Explorer and traveling north on Little River Neck Road at a high speed. The car ran off the road and when the driver over corrected, the car slid across the road and began to flip.
Dowling says the car created a 15 foot by 10 foot hole in the south wall of the church.
