MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Community members gathered at Futrell Park on Saturday afternoon to “Rock the Block.” It’s an event that stems from “Rock the Stop” and aims to give kids in the community a support system and encouragement.
“We just want to see them smile,” said organizer, PJ Thomas. “We want to promote encouragement, let them know they have support and most importantly give them positive role models.”
The community members today were given lunch and school supplies were also given to kids in need. The event was put on by volunteers who donated their time and money for the kids.
“We have a great team, we have great parents and great support systems. All these people are out here because they’re out here for the kids,” said Thomas.
The “Rock the Block” event is part of a growing trend to “Rock the Stop.” It’s an initiative to give kids in the community snacks and support at the bus stop before school. You can read more about “Rock the Stop” here. Thomas, who was born and raised in Myrtle Beach, says these events have already sparked change in the community.
“You see smiles, you see people coming out, you see people starting to volunteer and donate their time or money,” Thomas added. “It’s really amazing to know that if you have a cause that really comes from the heart, people are willing to support, people are willing to step up, and really there’s no limits to what this can become.”
