MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Labor Day Weekend acts as the unofficial end of summer and families from all over the country came to Myrtle Beach to soak in the last few days.
AAA estimates about 35.5 million people will travel 50 miles or more from home during this holiday weekend, which would be the highest amount since 2008 and a 1% increase over last year.
“Business is going to be fantastic,” said Thomas Edstrom, Marketing Manager of Plantation Resort. “Once some people have enough sun on the beach they’re going to come down to Ocean Boulevard, they’re going to shop in the stores, they’re going to have some food, they’re going to have a good time here on the beach.”
Many visitors were worried Tropical Storm Hermine was going to ruin their weekend plans, but they happy to see the sun return on Saturday.
The U.S. Travel Association predicts travelers will spend about $380 on goods and services this weekend.
