MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Tropical Storm Hermine has cleared out of the Carolinas, but many residents are still feeling the storm’s effect.
Roommates Lacy Eyre and Katherine Rowe’s home started flooding on Friday when they were at work. Rowe’s boyfriend was at home with her two kids and Eyre’s 60 pound pitbull when water started seeping into the doorways.
“We had water in our garage with kayaks floating,” said Eyre. “It was a lot of damage and a lot of water.”
Eyre said several inches of water came into the house and they tried to stack furniture to keep it from getting soaked.
“We tried to move some things but unfortunately we didn’t have much warning for the water to actually come inside the house. So most of the items were ruined from the water damage,” added Eyre. She said items that weren’t significantly damaged by the water still have to be thrown out because of bacteria in the water.
Both roommates said they were thankful staff from their company, Aventus Digital, offered to put them up in a hotel for the weekend.
“They’re like family to us,” said CEO & Co-Founder of Aventus Digital, Josh Royal. “It really broke my heart that they had to go through this.” So Royal decided to do something about it.
“Me and my business partner decided to write them a check so they could buy all new furniture,” added Royal. Eyre and Rowe will meet with their landlord this week to see where they go from here.
