FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – On Wednesday, officers with the Florence Police Department arrested a man after he fired his gun and ran from police.

Lt. Mike Brandt with Florence Police Department says around 11:30 p.m. officers were in the area investigating a gunshot heard near Jefferies Creek Park on Wisteria Drive. Investigators saw a car stopped at the entrance of the park and when they tried to initiate a traffic stop, the car failed to pull over.

Brandt says the car hit parked vehicles on Woodland Drive before the driver, William John Wilson, fled the scene on foot.

When officers took Wilson, from Florence, into custody, he was charged with DUI, failure to stop for blue lights, leaving the scene of a collision and discharging a firearm in the city.

Officers also say that he was served with an outstanding warrant for strong arm robbery.

The 28-year-old is currently being held at the Florence County Detention Center under a $50,000 surety bond.
