NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – The Horry County Schools Facilities Committee met Monday night to discuss the North Myrtle Beach High School renovation project.
School board member Holly Heniford says a few weeks ago district leaders had a meeting with the contractors for the project, and they were told some changes may be made to the plan for the school.
Design Coordinator Mark Koll gave the presentation to the board and said they will still be able to do the new parking lot at the school, but they would not be able to do new renovations to the school’s library or to the student learning commons area.
After the meeting Heniford said she thought the meeting went well, but she will continue to stay on top of the progress with the project.
“I’m on it. I mean, that’s the only way I can describe it to you. As I mentioned to you before, I am a real estate agent, and so I take this as my client and I’m going after these figures and numbers just like I would anyone else that hires me to work in my field of expertise, to making sure that the contracts and agreements are met above and beyond hopefully that what was agreed to,” said Heniford.
Originally, the board put aside $10 million for the project, and Heniford says that was basically for the nuts and bolts improvements that needed to be made.
In 2015, the board increased the budget to $21 million, and Heniford says the new improvements will last the school for years to come.
