MYRTLE BEACH, SC – Grand Strand Health will sponsor seminars about weight loss surgery and hip replacement surgery. There will also be free stroke risk assessments and a ladies night out for breast cancer survivors in October. All will be held at HealthFinders inside Coastal Grand Mall, beside Dillard’s.
Bariatric Surgeon Michael Michel, MD, with Coastal Carolina Bariatric & Surgical Center, will discuss weight loss surgery on Tuesday, October 11 from 6 – 7 pm. He will present on who would qualify as a candidate, what to expect, the procedure and risk factors for the surgery.
On Wednesday, October 12 from 6 – 7 pm, Urologist Neal Shore, MD, with Atlantic Urology Clinics, will present to the prostate cancer support group. He will discuss immunotherapy treatment in treating prostate cancer patients. Immunotherapy treatment has been shown to help patients suffering from prostate cancer symptoms.
Orthopaedic Surgeon Justin Brothers, MD, with Strand Orthopaedics, will discuss the recent advances and treatments of hip replacement surgery on Thursday, October 13 from 6 – 7 pm. Hip replacement surgery can help relieve pain and improve day to day movements.
On Tuesday, October 25 from 4:30 – 6 pm, free stroke risk assessments will be offered. High blood pressure, atrial fibrillation (a-fib) and smoking are a few risk factors for stroke. We will assess your stroke risk by a blood pressure check, a–fib screening and reviewing other risk factors. The a-fib screening is measured by non-invasive heart rhythm check and is for ages 25 and older. This screening is not intended to treat, diagnose or prevent any disease. Cancer survivors and those currently battling cancer are invited to join us for a Breast Cancer Survivors’ Ladies Night Out on Friday, October 28 from 5 – 7:30 pm. Participants will paint their own breast cancer ribbon door hanger while enjoying the company of fellow survivors. There will also be light hors d’oeuvres and cocktails along with other exhibitors.
