TOWNVILLE, SC —Townville Elementary school officials say they’re trying to balance law enforcement presence to make sure students feel safe and not scared.
The school says a school resource officer will be added in the upcoming weeks.
During the shooting, there wasn’t an officer at the school. The new officers are expected to start next week, but for now, there will be two sheriff deputies on campus.
School administrators say instructors were able to speak with counselors and talk about some of the horrific things they witnessed last Wednesday.
They tell us teachers have also been taught how to answer their student’s questions about the shooting.
There will be a normal car line and parents are welcomed to eat breakfast with their kids.
Counselors are available to talk to kids as early as 7AM.
School officials say therapy dogs will visit with students and staff members have volunteered to ride buses in the morning.
Everyone is encouraged to wear red and black school colors to show they are Townville Strong.
