GEORGETOWN, SC (WBTW) – Areas of Georgetown County are facing water shutoffs this weekend as Hurricane Matthew approaches the South Carolina coast.
Officials say the problem is that a sea surge could create new inlets across the barrier islands that could wipe out utilities and cause major problems in Georgetown County.
Raymond Gagon, CEO of Georgetown County Water and Sewer Authority, says the barrier islands in the county will have their water cut off sometime Saturday morning.
Those areas include Debordieu Beach, Prince George Beach, Pawleys Island, Litchfield by the Sea and Huntington, but officials have not yet determined a specific time, Gagon says.
