The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office has issued warrants for a suspect in a Pawleys Island bank robbery Friday.
Richard Edward Inman was booked into the Charleston County jail on Friday, where he is being held after being shot following a vehicle chase and stop south of McClellanville.
Officials in Georgetown County tell News13 they’re charging 49-year-old Inman, of Fountain Inn, SC, with armed robbery; entering a bank, depository or building and loan with intent to steal; and failure to stop for a blue light.
Inman is accused of entering the Bank of America on US 17 in the Pawleys Island community just before 6 p.m. Friday and presenting a teller with the note demanding money. He said he was armed with a firearm, according to a press release from the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies say he then left the area in a van that was spotted by deputies traveling south on US 17 in Georgetown County.
The chase entered Charleston County and passed through McClellanville. Deputies with the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office assisted in stopping the vehicle. After exiting the van, the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office says the suspect was wounded by a deputy. He was taken into custody and transported to MUSC for treatment before being incarcerated in the Charleston County jail.
On Monday evening, Inman was moved to the Georgetown County Detention Center. Online records suggest he was booked at 5:44 p.m. He is still in the jail as of 8:30 p.m. Monday.
The State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is in charge of the investigation.
According to our Nexstar affiliate, WSPA, Inman, who was previously accused of robbing another bank in SC, is a former Upstate police chief.
