GEORGETOWN, SC (WBTW) – A Georgetown woman hired by Debordieu Colony Real Estate is in jail after reportedly stealing more than $10,000 from the company.
Georgetown County deputies responded to 235 Church St. on Oct. 8 at approximately 5:37 p.m. in reference to a former employee having embezzled funds from the real estate agency.
Through an audit of financial and business records, it was determined the company bookkeeper, Shirley Watson, 40, had been rendering checks and forging business owners’ signatures to convert money for her personal use without consent.
Watson is charged with two counts of forgery in excess of $10,000 and two counts of grand larceny in excess of $10,000.
Watson surrendered to authorities at the Georgetown County Detention Center Wednesday where she was taken into custody without incident.
