FLORENCE, SC – The Florence County Council honored two Florence County Sheriff’s Deputies today for their heroic actions which saved the life of a woman involved in a serious motor vehicle accident at the October 20, 2016 meeting of The Council. On September 25, 2016 FCSO Deputies Tyler Urquhart and Corporal William Odom extricated an injured woman from a burning vehicle on Interstate 95 only moments before the entire vehicle was engulfed in flames.
Council Member Kent Caudle presented the Resolutions of Appreciation and Recognition approved by Florence County Council to both Deputy Urquhart and Corporal Odom. Sheriff Kenney Boone was present for the presentation.
The Resolutions read in part that the deputies “displayed the true characteristics of the ultimate public servant by risking [their] life to save the life of another…”
“Tyler and William richly deserve this recognition for their selfless devotion to serving the public,” Sheriff Kenney Boone stated. “But for their quick thinking and heroic actions, this woman would not have survived this terrible accident. Our deputies risk their lives every day to protect the citizens of Florence County without ever seeking a reward or glory. They represent the true face of Florence County law enforcement.”
